Front Tooth Cavity Filling: Will It Show, and What Comes Next?

Front Tooth Cavity Filling

Worried that a front tooth cavity filling will show every time you smile?

Front teeth are the first thing people see, so it is natural to put treatment off. You may also wonder whether the decay can be treated while the shape and color are tidied up.

Here is the order we follow, when a simple filling is enough, and where Blanche (BLANCHE) comes in.

A note from Dr. Kim

Putting off a cavity because you fear it will show is something I understand well.

Minimal intervention, maximum beauty.

That answer is Blanche, Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.

Front tooth cavity filling: what comes first?

Decay is always treated first, and only the decayed part is removed. That order does not change with Blanche.

Blanche does not treat cavities. It is placed after the decay has been dealt with.

If the decay is deep and painful, other treatment, such as root canal treatment, may be needed first. Gum inflammation is treated first too.

Decay does not go away on its own. So treating it while it is small usually means less of the tooth is shaped.

Front tooth cavities often start between teeth or near the gum, where a mirror won’t show them. A change in color or sensitivity to cold is worth a check.

We decide the treatment area from an exam, not from photos.

When a small filling is enough

For a small cavity, a composite filling may be all you need. It treats mainly the damaged area and can be done in one visit.

The color can be matched to your tooth, so a small filling often barely shows. A small cavity does not mean the whole front surface needs covering.

If a filling suits your tooth, I will say so. Your local dentist can usually do this well, wherever you live.

On the other hand, if decay covers a wide area, a crown may suit the tooth. A crown shapes the tooth all the way around and covers all of it.

For how fillings, crowns and other routes compare on a damaged front tooth, see our guide to treating a chipped tooth.

When Blanche makes sense after a front tooth cavity filling

A front tooth that has had decay treated can also have Blanche.

Decay is treated first, removing only the decayed part. Then that spot and the enamel around it are filled and covered with Blanche.

Some people come in with several fillings that no longer match each other. In that case, covering the treated spots and the enamel around them in one layer is worth considering.

Blanche can cover all front teeth and the premolars that show when you smile, up to 20 teeth upper and lower.

Still, if your front tooth cavity filling looks fine to you, there is nothing you need to add.

What Blanche adds on a treated front tooth

Blanche is not an ordinary veneer. It’s Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.

Instead of shaving your tooth down to cover it, Blanche adds a thin layer onto the tooth you already have. It works much like a screen protector on a phone: if it is ever damaged, only Blanche is replaced.

On a treated tooth, that layer fills and covers the treated spot and the enamel around it. We first decide whether any shaving is needed, and if it is, we stay under 0.1 mm.

Blanche Lab, our in-house lab with ceramists trained in France and Switzerland, designs and makes every piece from the Blanche Block.

We bond it with the Ivoclar adhesive system, which is biocompatible and resists edge discoloration. If Blanche is damaged later, we remove it with a laser and replace only Blanche.

My front tooth has a filling. Can it look natural?

Send us just two photos: one of your face straight on, and one smiling. We will tell you whether a filling alone looks enough or whether Blanche is worth discussing.

From filling to Blanche, step by step

Thin ceramic

First, we check the decay and your gums and take a 3D intraoral scan. Next, only the decayed part is treated.

Then we decide whether shaving is needed and design the shape and color. Blanche Lab makes the piece, we bond it, and we recommend one follow-up check.

If you only need a small filling, have it done at home. A trip makes more sense if you want several front teeth designed together, if shaving worries you, or if you want it done in one day.

The one-day option takes 4–5 hours on the day, so plan 2–3 days in Seoul.

For the full one-day program — technology, pricing, and booking — see our One-Day Veneers page.

Blanche is priced per tooth, VAT excluded: BASIC KRW 650,000, PLATINUM KRW 850,000 and Signature PLATINUM KRW 1,500,000. The one-day option adds KRW 200,000 per tooth.

We are a 30-second walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 4 in Gangnam, about an hour from Incheon Airport.

Frequently asked questions

Can a front tooth cavity filling and Blanche be done together?

Blanche does not treat decay. Only the decayed part is treated first; then that spot and the surrounding enamel are filled and covered with Blanche. For a small cavity, a filling alone may be enough.

Can I have Blanche if the cavity is deep?

If the decay is deep and painful, other treatment such as root canal treatment may be needed first. After that, we decide together which option fits.

Will you shave more tooth for Blanche after a filling?

We first decide whether any shaving is needed. If it is, we stay under 0.1 mm, and no-prep and minimal prep cost the same. Usually there is no anesthesia and no temporary teeth.

Side effects and individual differences

After Blanche, temporary sensitivity, a foreign-body feeling, or mild gum swelling can occur. Results and longevity vary with each person’s teeth and habits.

I still teach other dentists, and the order I follow never changes: decay first, covering second. I want even the treated spot to be part of a smile that still works twenty years from now.

How your first consultation works

1. We listen to your concerns and the smile you want.

2. Based on your exam, we explain every available option.

3. We give itemized costs and timelines. You are welcome to decide later, at home.

We repeat every explanation at least four times, and no decision depends on one person’s judgment alone.
