Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy: Blanche, Bonding and Crowns Compared

Front tooth reinforcement therapy is how we describe Blanche (BLANCHE), the treatment we provide at Blanche Dental Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul.
You may be reading this because a front tooth is chipped, worn at the edge, or marked with fine cracks. Perhaps you have been offered composite bonding or a crown, and neither feels quite right yet.
The worry underneath is usually twofold. How much of my own tooth will be shaved away? And if something goes wrong after I fly home, will I be starting over?
So here is what the therapy is, how it compares, and what happens if it is ever damaged.
A note from Dr. Kim
I know a chipped front tooth is hard to ignore, because you see it every time you smile.
“Minimal intervention, maximum beauty.” That line sums up Blanche (Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy).
What is front tooth reinforcement therapy?
Blanche is the name of the treatment. Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy is the description of what it does. In one line: Blanche is not an ordinary veneer. It’s Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.
Instead of shaving your teeth down to cover them, Blanche adds a thin layer onto the teeth you already have. It is a shield for chipped and worn front teeth, and design for healthy ones.
Blanche is also the name of a standard, not of a material. First, we decide whether your teeth need any shaving at all. Next, Blanche Lab designs and makes every piece from the Blanche Block. Finally, only dentists trained in that standard place it.
Same thin ceramic, different purpose

Blanche is thin ceramic bonded to the front of a tooth. In that respect, it resembles the no-prep veneers you may have read about.
The difference is the purpose and the standard. Blanche does not begin by asking how much to shave. Instead, it asks whether shaving can be avoided altogether.
Then it adds only as much as your tooth needs. Even when some shaping is necessary, we keep it under 0.1 mm. Results still differ from person to person, depending on the state of each tooth.
We bond each piece with the Ivoclar adhesive system, which is biocompatible and resists edge discoloration.
A screen protector for a front tooth
Think of the screen protector on your phone. Blanche adds one thin layer over your front tooth in the same way.
Knocks and wear reach Blanche first, and your own tooth stays underneath. If Blanche is damaged, only Blanche is replaced.
Composite bonding, Blanche and crowns side by side
Each of these has its place. The table compares facts only, not quality.
| Composite bonding | Blanche | Crown | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How much the tooth is shaped | Mainly the damaged area | No shaving, or under 0.1 mm | All the way around the tooth |
| Material | Composite resin | Thin ceramic | Ceramic and other materials |
| If it is damaged | Filled again | Only Blanche is replaced | Made again |
So the right choice depends on your tooth and your exam. If losing a lot of tooth structure is your concern, Blanche is one option worth asking about.

Front tooth reinforcement therapy for chipped, worn and cracked teeth

When a front tooth is chipped, worn, or finely cracked, its surface is weakened. Blanche covers that surface and guards it, like a shield.
For a single chipped tooth, our post on a filling, a crown, or thin ceramic for a chipped tooth walks through each choice.
If a front tooth has a cavity
Blanche does not treat decay. We treat the decayed part first. Then we fill and cover that area and the surrounding enamel with Blanche.
What we treat before Blanche
Gum inflammation, cavities, or heavy grinding are treated first. If your teeth are significantly crowded, we may suggest orthodontics first, to preserve tooth structure.
Design for healthy front teeth
Not every case starts with damage. Gapped, small, or discolored front teeth can be treated too. So can healthy teeth whose shape or color you want to change.
For example, small or gapped teeth often suit no-prep. Teeth that sit forward, large teeth, or very dark discoloration may need minimal prep, at the same cost.
Blanche works on all front teeth. It also covers the premolars that show when you smile, up to 20 teeth upper and lower combined.
“Is my chipped front tooth a case for Blanche?”
Send us just two photos: one of your face straight on, and one smiling. We will tell you whether no shaving looks possible, and what we would treat first.
If Blanche is ever damaged, only Blanche is replaced

This part matters once you are home. If Blanche is damaged, we replace Blanche, not more of your tooth.
First, the old piece is removed with a laser. No extra shaving is needed, and there is no separate removal fee. Revision is priced the same as new treatment, and it can be done in one day.
Planning the trip
The clinic is a 30-second walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 4 in Gangnam, about an hour from Incheon Airport. Treatment usually needs no anesthesia and no temporaries, although we use anesthesia if needed.
On a one-day visit, expect 4–5 hours on the day, or 5–6 hours for many teeth. We recommend one follow-up check afterward, so plan 2–3 days in Seoul.
For the full one-day program — technology, pricing, and booking — see our One-Day Veneers page.
If older work placed elsewhere is your concern, our post on redoing old work in Korea covers the process.

Frequently asked questions
Does front tooth reinforcement therapy mean shaving my teeth?
Not necessarily. We first decide whether any shaving is needed at all. If some shaping is necessary, it stays under 0.1 mm, and no-prep and minimal-prep cost the same.
Can Blanche go on a front tooth with a cavity?
Yes, after the decay is treated. We treat the decayed part first, then fill and cover that area and the surrounding enamel with Blanche.
What happens if Blanche gets damaged?
Only Blanche is replaced. The old piece is removed with a laser, with no extra shaving and no separate removal fee. Revision is priced the same as new treatment and can be done in one day.
Side effects and individual differences
Temporary sensitivity, a foreign-body feeling, or mild gum swelling can occur. Results and longevity vary with each person’s teeth and habits.
When I teach other dentists, I ask them to begin with how much of the tooth we can leave alone, and only then choose the material. That order is how we aim for “a smile that still works twenty years from now.”
How your first consultation works
1. We listen to your concerns and the smile you want.
2. Based on your exam, we explain every available option.
3. We give itemized costs and timelines. You are welcome to decide later, at home.
We repeat every explanation at least four times, and no decision depends on one person’s judgment alone.
