Front Tooth Bonding Keeps Breaking? Why, and What to Do Next

When your front tooth bonding keeps breaking in the same spot, it gets exhausting.
It holds for a while, then one bite of something firm and it chips off again. So you start to wonder whether another patch is the answer, or whether something else makes more sense.
Here is why it can happen, what to do right after, and when Blanche (BLANCHE) is worth a look.
A note from Dr. Kim
Patching the same tooth again and again is tiring, and I understand that frustration well.
Why damage a tooth worth more than you can price? Blanche started from that question.
That answer is Blanche, Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.
Why front tooth bonding keeps breaking in the same spot
There is rarely one single cause, and it depends on the tooth. In general, three things work together.
First, the size of the bonding. The more of the edge it covers, the more force it takes.
Second, bite force. Front teeth bite through food, so their edges take load every day.
Third, habits. Nail biting, biting hard things, clenching or grinding can all add stress.
| Reason | What to look at |
|---|---|
| Size of the bonding | Whether it covers a wide part of the edge or front surface |
| Bite force | How often that tooth bites through food, and how your teeth meet |
| Habits | Nail biting, hard foods, clenching or grinding |
Bonding is attached to the tooth, so in a spot that takes repeated force it can come off. That is not a flaw of bonding. Some spots are simply demanding.
What to do when your bonding comes off

Leave the edge alone
The remaining edge may be sharp, so keep your tongue and lips away from it.
Avoid biting with that tooth
Until you see a dentist, don’t bite hard food with it.
Notice any sensitivity or pain
Note whether cold hurts only for a moment or whether the tooth aches on its own. If it aches, the inside of the tooth may need checking first.
Get it seen soon
If you live abroad, your local dentist can check the tooth and bond it again. Often that is the right first step.
It also helps to remember how many times it has broken, and what you were eating each time.
Bond it again, or try something else?

If this is the first break, or the area is small, bonding again may be all you need. It can be done in one visit, which is a real advantage.
If your front tooth bonding keeps breaking in the same place, other options are worth a look too.
| Bonding | Blanche | Crown | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How much tooth is shaped | Mainly the damaged area | None, or under 0.1 mm | All the way around the tooth |
| Material | Composite resin | Thin ceramic | Ceramic and other materials |
| If it gets damaged | Bonded again | Only Blanche is replaced | Made again |
Count how often it has broken, how large the area is, and whether color or shape bothers you as well.
If a wide part of the edge needs covering and the breaks keep coming, Blanche is worth considering. If the tooth is damaged over a wide area, a crown may suit it instead.
If you are weighing the two side by side, see our comparison of no-prep options and composite bonding.
When front tooth bonding keeps breaking: what Blanche changes
Blanche is not an ordinary veneer. It’s Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.
Instead of shaving your tooth down to cover it, Blanche adds a thin layer onto the tooth you already have. Like a screen protector on a phone, it takes knocks and wear first, while your own tooth stays underneath.
We first decide whether any shaving is needed. If it is, we stay under 0.1 mm. Blanche Lab then designs and makes the piece from the Blanche Block.
We bond it with the Ivoclar adhesive system, which is biocompatible and resists edge discoloration.
If Blanche ever comes off, keep it and bring it in. If it is not broken, it may be possible to bond it back on. If it is damaged, we remove it with a laser and replace only Blanche.
With proper care and regular check-ups, Blanche can last over 10 years, and depending on care, 20–30 years or more.

My bonding has broken three times. Should I just redo it?
Send us just two photos: one of your face straight on, and one smiling. We will tell you whether bonding again looks reasonable or whether Blanche is worth discussing.
Before you switch, and if you plan to come to Seoul

A few things come first. Cavities and gum inflammation are treated first, and heavy grinding is treated and managed first too.
After that, we choose between bonding and Blanche together. Blanche usually needs no anesthesia and no temporary teeth. No-prep and minimal prep cost the same.
A trip makes sense if you want several front teeth designed together, if shaving worries you, or if you want it done in one day, in 4–5 hours.
For the full one-day program — technology, pricing, and booking — see our One-Day Veneers page.
Blanche is priced per tooth, VAT excluded: BASIC KRW 650,000, PLATINUM KRW 850,000 and Signature PLATINUM KRW 1,500,000. The one-day option adds KRW 200,000 per tooth.
We recommend one follow-up check, so plan 2–3 days in Seoul. The clinic is a 30-second walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 4, about an hour from Incheon Airport.

An actual case treated at Blanche Dental Clinic. Results vary with each patient’s dental condition.
Frequently asked questions
My front tooth bonding keeps breaking — how many times can it be redone?
There is no fixed number; it depends on the tooth. For a small area, bonding again may be enough. If it keeps breaking in one spot, we first look at the force on that spot and the size of the area.
Do you shave the tooth to place Blanche where the bonding was?
We first decide whether any shaving is needed. If it is, we stay under 0.1 mm, and no-prep and minimal prep cost the same.
What if Blanche comes off?
Keep it and bring it in. If it is not broken, it may be possible to bond it back on. If it is damaged, we remove it with a laser and replace only Blanche, at the same price as new treatment.
Side effects and individual differences
After Blanche, temporary sensitivity, a foreign-body feeling, or mild gum swelling can occur. Results and longevity vary with each person’s teeth and habits.
I still teach other dentists, and when the same spot breaks again and again, I look for the reason first. Bond again or add a layer, I want a smile that still works twenty years from now.
