is a Straumann implant?
Straumann is a dental implant manufacturer headquartered in Switzerland. It has researched implants for many years, is used by dental clinics in many countries, and is known as a brand with a large body of related research.
The product we use at Blanche is the Straumann BLX. The BLX tapers toward the root and is known to be designed to achieve stability right after placement (primary stability) across a range of bone conditions, from dense to soft bone. Even with the BLX, however, it is important to choose the width and length to suit your bone.
An implant has three parts
A screw-shaped artificial root placed in the jawbone. Names like Straumann BLX or Megagen AnyOne usually refer to this part. A post that connects the implant in the bone to the tooth placed on top. The artificial tooth you see and chew with. At Blanche, zirconia crowns are made at our in-house lab.

When comparing quotes, if only the implant price is listed, first ask whether the abutment and crown are charged separately. Blanche's KRW 2,300,000 includes all three plus the 3D CT scan, and for front teeth a same-day temporary tooth is also included.

- Bone grafts and sinus lifts are not needed by everyone: they are added only when the CT shows insufficient bone, and sedation only if you want it. A sinus lift is surgery that raises the floor of the empty space inside the upper jaw (maxillary sinus) and fills it with bone when bone height above the upper back teeth is insufficient. All fees can be found in the full price list.

The process is the same for Straumann and Megagen. We view the bone with 3D CT and place the implant at the planned site using a digital guide.

Consultation · 3D CT
We take a 3D CT at Blanche to check bone thickness and height and nerve position.

Planning
We set the implant position, angle and depth on a computer and make a digital guide if needed.

Implant surgery
Dr. Taehyung Kim and Dr. Hayoung Kim place the implants themselves. If you wish, it can be done under IV sedation (KRW 400,000 (≈ USD 295) per session, charged separately).
- 04
Stitch removal
About a week later, we remove the stitches and check that the gums are healing well.
- 05
Intraoral scan
After the bonding period (4–6 months), we scan with a 3D intraoral scanner instead of taking impressions.
- 06
Crown placement
About a week after the scan, a zirconia crown made at our in-house lab is connected and the bite is adjusted.

Traveling from abroad or outside Seoul
If you can stay about a week each time, surgery and stitch removal can be combined into one trip, and the scan and crown placement into another, so treatment is finished in two trips.
Same-day temporary front tooth
For front teeth, a temporary tooth can be fitted on the day of surgery, so you don't have to live with a gap while the implant bonds with the bone. The temporary tooth is included in the implant price.

If food and bacteria build up around the implant, the gums can become inflamed. Clean carefully around it with interdental brushes or floss.

How much does a Straumann implant cost?
Blanche Dental uses Straumann BLX, at KRW 2,300,000 (≈ USD 1,690) per tooth. The price includes the 3D CT scan, the implant placed in the jawbone, the abutment and the zirconia crown, and for front teeth a same-day temporary tooth as well. If a bone graft or sinus lift is needed, that cost is added.
Are the CT scan and temporary tooth charged separately?
No. The 3D CT scan and same-day temporary front tooth are included in the implant price. What is added separately is a bone graft when bone is insufficient (simple KRW 300,000 (≈ USD 220) per site, complex KRW 500,000 (≈ USD 370) per site), a sinus lift (crestal KRW 500,000 per tooth, lateral KRW 2,000,000 (≈ USD 1,470) per site), and IV sedation if you want it (KRW 400,000 (≈ USD 295)).
Which country is Straumann from?
It is a dental implant manufacturer headquartered in Switzerland. In Korea, it is often called an imported or Swiss implant.
Which is better, Straumann or Megagen?
It's hard to say one is always better. The right choice depends on your bone condition, the implant site, your budget and where you will receive care in the future.

Both are implants from the Korean manufacturer Megagen, but they are different products. At Blanche, AnyOne is KRW 800,000 (≈ USD 590) and BlueDiamond is KRW 1,000,000 (≈ USD 735), and both equally include the 3D CT scan, abutment and zirconia crown.

We use the Straumann BLX. The BLX tapers toward the root and is known to be designed to achieve primary stability across a range of bone conditions. Width and length are decided after checking your bone on CT.
Can I get a Straumann implant if my bone is insufficient?
In many cases, the implant is placed after adding bone with a bone graft or sinus lift. Changing brands doesn't solve bone problems, so we first check your bone on CT and explain the surgery and cost needed.
Who performs the surgery?
Dr. Taehyung Kim, Chief Dentist, and Dr. Hayoung Kim perform the surgery themselves. Both dentists can treat patients in English.
How long does treatment take?
After surgery, it usually takes 4–6 months for the implant to bond with the bone. It usually takes four visits: surgery, stitch removal about a week later, a scan 4–6 months later, and crown placement a week after that. The timeline may change if a bone graft is done at the same time.
How many visits are needed if I'm coming from abroad or outside Seoul?
If you can stay about a week each time, treatment can be finished in two trips: surgery and stitch removal on the first trip, and the scan and crown placement on the second.
If I get a front tooth implant, will I have a gap until the crown is ready?
No. For front teeth, a temporary tooth can be fitted on the day of surgery, and the cost is included in the implant price.
Can I have surgery under sedation?
Yes. It can be done with conscious sedation, a light sleep-like state in which you keep breathing on your own, at KRW 400,000 (≈ USD 295) per session, charged separately. During sedation, oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure are monitored in real time. For more details, please see the Sedation Implants page.
Will it hurt or swell a lot after surgery?
Swelling, bruising, pain or temporary changes in sensation may occur after surgery. These usually subside over time, but the degree and recovery time vary from person to person. If discomfort continues, please contact us right away.
How long is the warranty?
Two years. It is the same for Straumann BLX and Megagen and includes the crown. We explain the exact coverage at the consultation.
I have a CT taken at another clinic. Can you plan with it?
We can review it as reference at the consultation. However, the final surgical plan is made with a 3D CT taken at Blanche.
What should I prepare before the consultation?
If you have a recent panoramic X-ray or CT, please send it via WhatsApp. If not, just send photos of your mouth and a dentist will take a look first. Consultations are also available in English, Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Russian.
