Front Teeth Worn Down From Grinding: What to Manage First, and When to Add a Layer

Front Teeth Worn Down

Front teeth worn down by grinding often go unnoticed until a photo shows a smile that looks shorter and flatter than before.

Maybe your jaw feels tight in the morning. The question behind it is usually this: if I cover the edges, won’t I just grind through that too?

That is a fair worry. So this post covers what to manage first, what adding a thin layer with Blanche (BLANCHE) means, and when a trip to Seoul makes sense.

A note from Dr. Kim

I know how unsettling it is to watch your front teeth get a little shorter every year.

Minimal intervention, maximum beauty.

That answer is Blanche, Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.

Why are my front teeth worn down at the edges?

Grinding, or bruxism, means rubbing the upper and lower teeth together, often during sleep. Clenching puts similar force on the teeth.

Front teeth have thin, narrow edges, so that repeated force gathers at the tips. Over time, the edges look flat or shorter, and thinning enamel can look see-through or slightly yellow.

Enamel does not grow back once it wears away. That is why the force behind the wear matters before its shape.

Common clues include a tight jaw on waking, a heavy feeling at the temples, or upper and lower edges that meet perfectly flat.

Why heavy grinding is managed before anything else

Dental check-up

To be honest, if your grinding is heavy, managing it comes before Blanche. At Blanche Dental Clinic, heavy grinding is treated first, because the same force would keep reaching whatever covers the teeth.

A night guard, worn during sleep so the teeth don’t rub directly, is a common first step. Your dentist may also check your jaw and muscles.

This step is worth doing with or without Blanche. In fact, a dentist near your home can make and adjust a night guard, so there is no need to fly for it.

What adding a layer to front teeth worn down really means

Digital smile design

Blanche is not an ordinary veneer. It’s Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.

A shield for chipped and worn front teeth. Design for healthy ones.

Instead of shaving your teeth down to cover them, Blanche adds a thin layer onto the teeth you already have.

Think of the screen protector on your phone. Bumps and wear land on Blanche first, your own tooth stays underneath, and if Blanche is damaged, only Blanche is replaced.

On front teeth worn down and shortened, that layer covers and protects the weakened surface. Every piece is made by Blanche Lab from the Blanche Block.

Blanche is done fully no-prep or with minimal prep under 0.1 mm only. Worn teeth have already lost enamel, so we first decide whether they need any shaving at all.

How Blanche works for front teeth worn down by grinding

Blanche is usually done without anesthesia or temporary teeth, with anesthesia only if needed.

First, we check the wear, the grinding, your gums, and any cavities, and a 3D intraoral scanner records your teeth. Anything that needs treatment comes first.

Next, we decide tooth by tooth between no-prep and minimal prep, which cost the same. We design the length and edge line to suit your face and lip line, then bond Blanche with the Ivoclar adhesive system.

Blanche does not make grinding go away, so keep managing it afterward. If Blanche is damaged, we remove it with a laser and replace only Blanche, with no extra shaving and no separate removal fee.

With proper care and regular check-ups, Blanche can last over 10 years, and depending on care, 20–30 years or more.

Coming to Seoul for worn front teeth: when it makes sense

Regular check-ups and care

If only one edge has a tiny worn spot, light smoothing or bonding near home may be all you need.

A trip makes more sense when you want several front teeth designed together, worry about shaving, or want it finished in one day. One-day treatment takes 4–5 hours on the day, or 5–6 hours for many teeth.

For the full one-day program — technology, pricing, and booking — see our One-Day Veneers page.

Plan 2–3 days in Seoul for one follow-up check. We are a 30-second walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 4, about an hour from Incheon Airport.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get Blanche on front teeth worn down by grinding without treating the grinding first?

If the grinding is heavy, managing it comes first, because the same force would keep reaching the covered teeth. If it is mild, Blanche can be planned alongside grinding care. An exam shows which applies to you.

Do worn front teeth have to be shaved for Blanche?

Blanche is done fully no-prep or with minimal prep under 0.1 mm only. Which one fits depends on each tooth, and both cost the same. Results vary from person to person.

What happens if grinding damages Blanche?

We remove it with a laser and replace only Blanche, with no extra shaving and no separate removal fee. Replacement costs the same as new treatment and can be done in one day.

Side effects and individual differences

After Blanche, temporary sensitivity, a foreign-body feeling, or mild gum swelling can occur. Results and longevity vary with each person’s teeth and habits.

I still teach dentists, but in my own chair the first question never changes: does this tooth need any shaving at all? For worn front teeth, settling the grinding first and then adding one thin layer is how we aim for a smile that still works twenty years from now.

How your first consultation works

1. We listen to your concerns and the smile you want.

2. Based on your exam, we explain every available option.

3. We give itemized costs and timelines. You are welcome to decide later, at home.

We repeat every explanation at least four times, and no decision depends on one person’s judgment alone.
