Chipped Front Tooth, No Pain: Can You Just Leave It?

You notice a chipped front tooth, no pain at all, and it feels easy to leave it for later.
Maybe you also worry that a dentist will want to shave the tooth down. And if you live abroad, you may wonder whether any of this is worth a trip to Korea.
So here is an honest answer. We will cover what can happen if you leave it, which signs need a check now, and how the options compare, including Blanche (BLANCHE).
A note from Dr. Kim
I understand the instinct completely: if it doesn’t hurt, it feels like it can wait.
Why damage a tooth worth more than you can price? Blanche started from that question.
That answer is Blanche, Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.
Chipped front tooth, no pain: what can happen if you leave it?
Not every chip gets worse; much depends on the tooth itself.
That said, a few things can happen over time.
First, the broken edge can stay sharp and catch your tongue or lip.
Second, front teeth bite through food, so a thin edge takes a lot of force. As a result, the chip can grow.
Third, if the chip reaches below the outer enamel, cold drinks may start to feel sharp.
One thing is certain: enamel does not grow back, so a chip will not fill itself in. And no pain does not always mean the chip is shallow.
Chipped front tooth, no pain — but these signs need a check

Some signs mean the inside of the tooth needs a look before anything cosmetic. If you notice any of these, see a dentist soon, wherever you live.
| Sign | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Aching or throbbing on its own | The inner part of the tooth may be affected |
| Sensitivity to cold or sweets that keeps coming back | The depth of the chip needs checking |
| A pink or red spot in the chipped area | The chip may be close to the nerve |
| The tooth feels loose or turns darker after a knock | The root or nerve needs checking |
| The edge keeps cutting your tongue or lip | Simply smoothing the edge may be enough |
In these cases, other treatment, such as root canal treatment, may need to come first. Shape comes after that.
If the tooth chipped from a hard knock, one check is worthwhile even without symptoms.
Still, a chipped front tooth, no pain, and none of these signs is a calmer picture. You have time to compare options.
Options for a chipped front tooth, compared

There are four common routes: smoothing, bonding, Blanche and a crown. None of them is wrong in itself. The right one depends on the size of the chip and the state of the tooth.
| Smoothing | Bonding | Blanche | Crown | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How much tooth is shaped | Only the sharp edge | Mainly the damaged area | None, or under 0.1 mm | All the way around the tooth |
| Material | None | Composite resin | Thin ceramic | Ceramic and other materials |
| If it gets damaged | Checked again | Bonded again | Only Blanche is replaced | Made again |
For a very small chip, your local dentist can often smooth the sharp edge or add a little composite bonding. That may be all you need.
A crown covers the whole tooth, so it can suit a tooth that is broken over a wide area. If a crown fits your tooth, I will tell you that, and why.

What Blanche does for a chipped front tooth
Blanche is not an ordinary veneer. It’s Front Tooth Reinforcement Therapy.
Instead of shaving your tooth down to cover it, Blanche adds a thin layer onto the tooth you already have.
Think of a screen protector on a phone. Knocks and wear hit Blanche first, and your own tooth stays underneath. If Blanche is ever damaged, only Blanche is replaced.
On a chipped tooth, that layer covers and guards the weakened surface. On a healthy tooth, the same layer designs shape and color.
We first decide whether the tooth needs any shaving at all. If it does, we stay under 0.1 mm, and no-prep and minimal prep cost the same.
Blanche Lab designs and makes every piece from the Blanche Block. Blanche works on all front teeth and the premolars that show when you smile, up to 20 teeth upper and lower.

My chip doesn’t hurt. Can I really leave it?

Is it worth coming to Seoul for one chipped tooth?

Honestly, often it is not. A small chip can usually be handled well by a dentist close to home.
A trip makes more sense if you want several front teeth designed together, if shaving worries you, or if you want it done in one day.
With the one-day option, treatment takes 4–5 hours on the day, or 5–6 hours for many teeth. You can go out while the lab works. We recommend one follow-up check, so plan 2–3 days in Seoul.
For the full one-day program — technology, pricing, and booking — see our One-Day Veneers page.
Blanche is priced per tooth, VAT excluded: BASIC KRW 650,000, PLATINUM KRW 850,000 and Signature PLATINUM KRW 1,500,000. The one-day option adds KRW 200,000 per tooth.
We are a 30-second walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 4 in Gangnam, about an hour from Incheon Airport.

Frequently asked questions
Chipped front tooth, no pain: is it okay to leave it?
Sometimes, but have it checked once. A sharp edge can catch your lip, and a thin edge can chip further. If pain or sensitivity starts, other treatment may need to come first.
Does Blanche mean shaving my chipped tooth?
We first decide whether any shaving is needed. If it is, we stay under 0.1 mm, and no-prep and minimal prep cost the same. Usually there is no anesthesia and no temporary teeth.
What happens if Blanche gets damaged later?
Only Blanche is replaced. We remove it with a laser, with no extra shaving and no separate removal fee. A revision costs the same as new treatment and can be done in one day.
Side effects and individual differences
After Blanche, temporary sensitivity, a foreign-body feeling, or mild gum swelling can occur. Results and longevity vary with each person’s teeth and habits.
I still teach other dentists, and in my own chair a small chip is a reason to look closely first. My goal for you stays the same: a smile that still works twenty years from now.
