Dental Implants for Seniors in Korea: Am I Too Old, and Is the Trip Too Much?

If you searched for “dental implants for seniors Korea”, you may be planning treatment for yourself, or helping a parent plan theirs.
Either way, two questions usually sit underneath the search. “Am I too old for this?” And, just as often, “Is the trip too much?”
Both are fair questions. Here is how we actually think about them.
A note from Dr. Kim
I understand that worry, because deciding on surgery far from home is a big step at any age.
“A smile that still works twenty years from now.” We plan every implant with that line in mind, whatever your age.
Dental implants for seniors in Korea: health matters more than age
Age on its own rarely decides whether implants make sense. What matters more is your overall health, your bone and gums, and the medicines you take.
Think of it like planting a tree. A good gardener looks less at the calendar and more at the soil. With implants, your bone and gums are the soil.
Tell us about your health before surgery
Some conditions and medicines affect surgery and healing. Please tell us about them early, before you book flights.
- Blood thinners: they affect bleeding, so we need the name and dose. Never stop a medicine on your own; any change should be agreed with the doctor who prescribed it.
- Diabetes: how well it is controlled can affect healing.
- Bone health: osteoporosis, and some medicines used for bone health, matter for implant planning.
- Smoking and gum disease: both can slow healing.
Having one of these does not by itself end the conversation. Instead, it shapes how we plan dental implants for seniors in Korea, and sometimes the timing.
3D CT and guided surgery: planning before surgery day

Every implant plan at Blanche starts with a 3D CT, and the scan is included in the implant price. It shows your bone, nerves and sinuses.
From that scan, we plan the implant position digitally. Digital guided surgery then carries that plan into the operation. That way, most of the planning happens on a screen before surgery day.
The CT also shows whether a bone graft is truly needed. If it is, a simple graft is KRW 300,000 per site and a complex graft KRW 500,000 per site. Our article on avoiding unnecessary bone grafts explains how we decide.
Sedation for older patients: an option, not a requirement

Many people feel calmer with sedation, at any age. It costs KRW 400,000 per session and is not included in implant or full-arch prices.
A dentist administers the sedation and monitors you throughout. Preparation includes:
- 6 hours of fasting before treatment
- An ECG check
- All staff are CPR-certified
- A companion is recommended for the day

Dental implants for seniors in Korea: what to prepare
The right information saves time on your first trip.
| Concern | What we check | What to bring or prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Medicines, including blood thinners | Names, doses and bleeding risk | A written list of every medicine, with doses |
| Diabetes | How it may affect healing | Recent notes from your doctor, if you have them |
| Bone health | Bone height and width on the 3D CT | Names of any bone or osteoporosis medicines, past or present |
| Nerves about surgery | Whether sedation suits you, with an ECG check | Plan for 6 hours of fasting and bring a companion |
| Energy for travel | How many visits and trips your plan needs | Plan 2 trips of about a week each |
Full-arch or single implants: matching the plan to your mouth

If you are missing one or a few teeth, single implants may be enough. We keep your own healthy teeth whenever possible.
Each fee includes the abutment and a zirconia crown from our in-house lab:
- Megagen AnyOne: KRW 800,000
- Megagen BlueDiamond: KRW 1,000,000
- Straumann BLX: KRW 2,300,000
Megagen is Korean, and Straumann is Swiss. The 2-year warranty is the same for all three.
When full-arch makes more sense
If most teeth in a jaw are missing or failing, a zirconia full-arch bridge on 4–6 implants may suit you better. It is priced per jaw.
In most cases, you can eat on the day of surgery. Extractions are billed separately, and sedation is not included. Our All-on-4 Korea guide covers cost per arch and trips.
“Would implants work for me, or for my dad?”
Send us a recent X-ray if you have one, or just two photos: one of your face straight on, and one smiling. We will tell you which options look realistic and which health details to check.
Planning the trip: two trips, then regular check-ups
With dental implants for seniors in Korea, the trip itself is often the bigger worry. The usual schedule is four visits:
- Implant surgery
- Stitches out, about one week later
- A digital scan after 4–6 months of healing
- The crown fitted, about one week after the scan
If you can stay about a week each time, that means only two trips to Korea. Between trips, the implant heals at home.
For front teeth, a same-day temporary tooth is possible, so you do not fly home with a gap.
We are a 30-second walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 4 in Gangnam, about an hour from Incheon Airport.
Planning for a parent? Send their X-ray or photos on WhatsApp, and we will explain the options to you both.
After treatment: check-ups and care
Implants need daily cleaning and regular check-ups, just like natural teeth.
Full-arch bridges need check-ups every 3 months, when we unscrew and clean the bridge.
Our implant warranty is 2 years. If a problem comes up after you return home, we help you get follow-up care in your own country.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an age limit for dental implants for seniors in Korea?
Age alone does not decide it. We look at your overall health, bone, gums and medicines, using a 3D CT and your medical history.
How does sedation work during implant surgery?
A dentist administers and monitors it, after 6 hours of fasting and an ECG check. It costs KRW 400,000 per session, and a companion is recommended.
How many trips to Korea will my implants take?
Usually four visits, or two trips if you can stay about a week each time.
Side effects and individual differences
Swelling, bruising, mild pain, or temporary numbness can occur after implant surgery, and healing time varies. Results and longevity depend on each person’s bone, gums, health, and habits.
When I teach other dentists, I remind them that age is one number; health tells the real story. We keep your own teeth whenever we can, for a smile that still works twenty years from now.
How your first consultation works
1. We listen to your concerns and what you want to be able to eat and smile with again.
2. Based on your 3D CT and exam, we explain every available option, including whether a bone graft is really needed.
3. We give itemized costs and a visit schedule. You are welcome to decide later, at home.
We repeat every explanation at least four times, and no decision depends on one person’s judgment alone.
