Are Korean Implants Good? What Matters More Than the Brand

Are Korean Implants Good? What Matters More

Are Korean implants good, or is a Korean brand the budget compromise you settle for? If a clinic has offered you a Megagen implant, that question may sit quietly behind every other one.

Maybe the price looked lower than you expected. And somewhere in your mind, a worry formed: am I getting a knock-off?

It is a fair question. Here is what matters more than the country on the box, and how to check any plan, including ours.

A note from Dr. Kim

I understand that trusting a part you will never see, placed in your jaw far from home, takes real confidence.

“Why damage a tooth worth more than you can price? Blanche started from that question.” Trust should rest on things you can check, not on a label.

Are Korean implants good? Start with who makes them

Korea has a large dental implant manufacturing industry. Megagen is one of those Korean manufacturers, and it makes its own implant lines, including AnyOne and BlueDiamond.

So a Megagen implant is not a copy of a foreign brand. It is a Korean product with its own name on it.

You may also see Osstem, another Korean brand, on some quotes. We do not currently use it, but the same questions apply to any brand.

For cost and brands side by side, see our comparison of Straumann vs Korean implants. This article is about trust, and how to verify it.

What matters more than the country of origin

3D CT scan used to plan dental implants

Think of a good kitchen knife. The steel matters, but even a fine blade cuts badly if nobody sharpens it. An implant is similar: the part matters, and so does everything around it.

Planning and the surgeon

A 3D CT shows your bone, nerves and sinus in three dimensions, and digital guided surgery carries that plan into the operation. The 3D CT is included in the implant price.

At Blanche, implant surgery is performed by Dr. Kim Tae-hyung and Dr. Kim Ha-young, and both speak English.

Your bone and your health

Bone needs time to bond with the implant, a process called osseointegration. Smoking, diabetes and gum disease can all affect healing, whatever the brand.

The crown and the years after

Ours are zirconia crowns made in our in-house lab. Generally, a crown that meets your bite evenly is easier to keep clean.

After that, daily cleaning and regular check-ups protect the gum and bone around the implant. See our guide to making an implant last.

What makes an implant last, and who controls it

Reviewing X-rays during consultation

Are Korean implants good enough for you? That depends on these rows as much as on the brand.

Our three options, on the same terms

Each price is per implant and includes the abutment and a zirconia crown:

  • Megagen AnyOne (Korean): KRW 800,000
  • Megagen BlueDiamond (Korean): KRW 1,000,000
  • Straumann BLX (Swiss): KRW 2,300,000

All three carry the same 2-year warranty, which covers the crown. The 3D CT, the surgeons and the in-house lab stay the same whichever you choose.

In 2024, Blanche placed more Straumann BLX implants than any other dental clinic in Gangnam. Even so, we offer Megagen alongside it, at the same pricing for Korean and international patients.

Are Korean implants good for you? How to verify any plan

Full-arch implant bridge model

Whichever brand you are offered, ask for these in writing:

  • The brand and exact line, not just “a Korean implant”.
  • Who will place it.
  • Whether a 3D CT is included, and whether a graft is planned, with the reason.
  • What the price includes: abutment, crown and crown material.
  • The warranty, and what happens after you fly home.

Knowing your line helps later, too. When we see an implant placed elsewhere, we identify the system from X-rays and its shape, but a written record makes it simpler.

If a graft is suggested, ask why. Our article on avoiding unnecessary bone grafts explains when one is truly needed.

“Is a Korean implant a sensible choice for my case?”

Send us a recent X-ray if you have one, or just two photos: one of your face straight on, and one smiling. We will tell you which of our three options look realistic for you and whether a bone graft may come up.

Planning your visits from abroad

Treatment usually takes four visits: surgery, stitches out a week later, a digital scan 4–6 months later, and the crown about a week after that. If you can stay about a week each time, that means only two trips.

We are a 30-second walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 4, about an hour from Incheon Airport. Send your X-ray first; the final plan needs our own 3D CT in Seoul. If a problem comes up after you return home, we help you get follow-up care in your own country.

Frequently asked questions

Are Korean implants good enough to last for years?

How long an implant lasts depends on planning, the surgeon, your bone, the crown fit and your care at home, not on the country of origin alone. At Blanche, all three options carry the same 2-year warranty, which covers the crown.

Is a Megagen implant a knock-off of another brand?

No. Megagen is a Korean implant manufacturer with its own implant lines, including AnyOne and BlueDiamond. Ask any clinic to write the brand and line in your plan.

What does each implant price include at Blanche?

Each price includes the abutment, a zirconia crown from our in-house lab and the 3D CT. Bone grafts (KRW 300,000 or 500,000 per site) and sedation (KRW 400,000 per session) are added only if needed.

Side effects and individual differences

Swelling, bruising, mild pain, or temporary numbness can occur after implant surgery, and healing time varies. Results and longevity depend on each person’s bone, gums, health, and habits.

When I teach other dentists, I tell them patients deserve answers they can check. Whatever brand you choose, we keep your own teeth whenever we can and aim for a smile that still works twenty years from now.

How your first consultation works

1. We listen to your concerns and what you want to be able to eat and smile with again.

2. Based on your 3D CT and exam, we explain every available option, including whether a bone graft is really needed.

3. We give itemized costs and a visit schedule. You are welcome to decide later, at home.

We repeat every explanation at least four times, and no decision depends on one person’s judgment alone.
